Grade: 5
GLO:
(4-5) - Students will recognize that human activity can lead to the production of wastes, and identify alternatives for the responsible use and disposal of materials.
SLO:
Compare different kinds of packaging, and infer the relative advantages and disadvantages of that packaging. In evaluating different forms of packaging, students should demonstrate the ability to consider a consumer perspective as well as an environmental perspective.
ICT Learner Outcomes:
2.1 access and retrieve appropriate information from the Internet by using a specific search path or from given uniform resource locations (URLs)
2.2 use data gathered from a variety of electronic sources to address identified problems
2.1 recognize that graphics, video and sound enhance communication
Description of Activity:
Students will access the website: http://www.recycling-guide.org.uk/ and be able to be more aware of the reasons why recycling is important. The teacher will give them a worksheet to fill out while searching the site. The students can find the answers by clicking on the different recycling categories (school, home, building from recycled products, and how materials are recycled) and reading through the information. The worksheet will be handed in and assessed based on if the answers are complete.
Explanation:
By using technology in this lesson, student will be able to learn of the valuable resources and guides that are available about recycling on the Internet. The use of websites is beneficial in providing great illustrations and diagrams that can be more easily understood by some students who learn better by visual representations. This may also help students to be able to navigate around on the Internet.

Chad old boy! Stellar work on assignment 4! First of all I think this is an extremely important topic, and you did a great job making sure your students will know all about recycling. Rather than just having the students simply peruse the website, which may not be very memorable, you have them complete a worksheet which would reinforce what they learned. So that's nice. As for improvements, I could offer an extension you might have included: a learning game! Those are always fun. Maybe after they completed the worksheet the class could have a recycling jeapordy! Good work Chad. See ya in class ;)
